Waubonsee broke a scoreless tie with a pair of late goals to defeat the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team 2-0 on Monday in a Region IV contest.
After a scoreless opening half, the Chiefs (12-2-1, 11-2) took the lead on Michael Waclaw’s goal from Jose Gallegos in the 68th minute. Waubonsee added a late goal from Michael Bozett in the 89th minute to put the game away.
Chances were at a premium for both sides throughout the contest. Sandburg (6-11-2, 6-7-2) totaled just three shots on goal, with two coming from Tumelo Matebesi (Pretoria, South Africa/Willowridge). Saahil Kapoor (Guilford, England/Guilford County) made three saves in net for Sandburg.
The Chargers will close out the Region IV portion of their schedule by traveling to Lake County at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Sandburg wraps up its season at 1 p.m. Sunday at Knox JV.
